Thirty & Up: Imam al Nawawi’s Arbain - Hadith 6 ”Halal, Haram, and the Heart”

Thirty & Up: Imam al Nawawi’s sixth hadith in his collection is one of the most well-known explanation of the value of the heart to the body of someone’s faith. In this Hadith, the Prophet ﷺ explains that there is a general sense of what is right and wrong that every person can discern - and while their may be some cases where things are unclear, the sunnah gives us a path to stay out of trouble when things are unclear.

The Prophet ﷺ then finished the lesson with a beautiful reminder about the indication about the health of one’s heart with regards to everything else about their spiritual life. How this ties back into the first part of the hadith is so amazing, it really opens up new understandings on our perspectives on what we choose to do - for better or for worse.
