Thirty & Up - Hadith 25
Wednesday Dec 15, 2021
Wednesday Dec 15, 2021
Tonight's Hadith teaches us an important principle - the equity in gaining closeness to Allah. It is part of human nature to look around at those in our lives and to think about comparisons between ourselves and others. In those comparisons sometimes we have moments of despair or disappointment when we measure our status in life versus others; when you think of other people having more wealth or more opportunity or more privilege than yourself it’s easy to feel down about your status in life.
This narration teaches us that when it comes to doing good deeds and gaining closeness to Allah, no one has a distinct advantage over another due to any of their family relationships, or financial circumstance, or life situation in general. Allah has provided us with so much different opportunity to come close to him that nobody can feel as if someone else has a distinct advantage over them in spirituality.

Thirty & Up - Hadith 24, Allah’s description of our relationship
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Thirty & Up tonight is a unique narration that comes from a special category of Hadith known as the Hadith Qudsi - these are told to us by the Prophet ﷺ on behalf of Allah (swt).
Tonight's discussion is on our relationship with Allah through the variety of scenarios and challenges in life - good and bad. Allah begins the narration by proclaiming that He does not oppress and thus He has forbidden oppression from anyone else. He continues to then describe the nature of supplicating from Him, accountability to Him, and how the ultimate destiny and measure of everyone's life is in His hands.
What lessons can we derive from this Hadith that impact us practically and spiritually on a day-to-day basis?

Thirty & Up - Hadith 23 of 40 - Hastening to do good every day.
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
Tonight’s Hadith at first appears to be a narration of great complexity with a series of multiple lists; the Prophet ﷺ describes purity as a major component of faith, reminds us of the value of dhikr (remembrances of Allah), of the specific virtues of prayer, charity, patience etc.
But how is this narration tied together? Is it a list with varying lessons or is there a thread that runs through each point, bringing a cohesive lesson to the front of our minds?

Thirty & Up - Imam an Nawawi’s Forty Hadith - #22: Entering Paradise
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Thirty & Up: tonights hadith is an astounding one - a companion comes to the Prophet ﷺ and asks not about a long list of things he can do to become better, but rather he asks about what's the bare minimum he can do to achieve faith with Allah.
Though on it's face this hadith may seem confusing to some, there are multiple layers of wisdom as to why the Prophet ﷺ would give the answer he did, and how this preserved wisdom can benefit us today, no matter what stage we are at.

Wednesday Aug 25, 2021
Imam al Nawawi's 10th Hadith in his Arbain is perhaps one of the most profound and intense narrations in the series.
The Prophet ﷺ teaches us about the value of living within the parameters of what is permissible - not just as a reminder, but also teaching us what is at stake if we fail to have sincere concern about the spiritual status of our earnings and consumption.
