Thirty & Up - Hadith 33 The one who makes claims must provide evidence
Wednesday Mar 02, 2022
Wednesday Mar 02, 2022
The Prophet ﷺ lays down a foundational principle of justice in this week's hadith: "if people were to be given everything that they claim, they would claim the lives and wealth of others; but, the onus of proof is upon the claimant, and the taking of the oath is on the one who denies."
The principle of innocence until proven guilty, and that the burden of proof is upon the claimant is something that we are familiar with in western democratic justice systems, but this principle was established first and foremost by the Prophet ﷺ over 1400 years ago.

Wednesday Feb 23, 2022
This week’s hadith is the source for one of the primary principles in Islamic legal theory: the Prophet ﷺ said, “there should be no harming (of others) nor reciprocating harm.” This hadith determines that actions which might seem benign can in fact be problematic if they are the source of direct harm to someone or one’s self.

A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, direct me to an act which, if I do it, [will cause] Allah to love me and the people to love me." So he (peace be upon him) said, "Renounce the world and Allah will love you, and renounce what people possess and the people will love you."
What a powerful and timeless reminder about character traits that every person could benefit in increasing in - gratitude, perspective, reflection, and many more. This short-yet-powerful Hadith is a Prophetic masterclass in keeping our focus simple.

A short narration this week, the Prophet ﷺ tells us about four things that Allah (swt) has set or done in our relationship with Him, and how we should engage with these four categories: the religious obligations, the boundaries in Islam, the prohibitions of certain actions, and the things that Allah (swt) has not mentioned to us - how should we engage with the unknown?

Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Muadh b. Jabal narrates to us a lengthy hadith on the Prophet ﷺ answering a really deep question; Muadh tells us that one day he asked the Messenger ﷺ about an action that he could do that would be a means of him entering Paradise, and a means of protection for him from the Hellfire.
The response that the Prophet ﷺ gives is a comprehensive and vast answer, with a direct-yet-surprising ending. He ﷺ details a variety of ways that a person can do actions of Paradise and protect themselves from the Hellfire, and then uncovers the root of all risk when it comes to a person’s afterlife. Join us to find out the beauty behind this substantive hadith.
